HA Dermal Fillers

Most of us would like to have healthy, glowing, and youthful skin for as long as possible. However, with time, skin undergoes a number of predictable changes that affect its texture, volume, and thickness. Indeed, skin and facial aging reflect the combined effects of time, genetics, and the environment on soft tissues, including on the skin, but also on hard tissues such as the bony structures.

Hyaluronic acid is abundantly present in our skin and is one of the essential elements that is lost as we age. Due to its outstanding and unique ability to bind and retain water, it is invaluable for effectively restoring volume to the skin, as well as improving the skin’s hydration and texture. Hyaluronic dermal fillers are good for the health of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers (injections of hyaluronic acid into the underlying layer of your skin, known as the dermis) remain one of the primary treatments for correction of folds and loss of volume that develop with age. There is a huge variety of thicknesses and stretch/ flexibility to dermal fillers so selecting the right product for your face is essential.

Because HA fillers are developed from something that is naturally occurring in the body these are temporary. The body has enzymes that will naturally dissolve these fillers over time. We have a dissolving agent we can inject if you wish to remove the filler at any time or if there are complications.

We choose to use the Teosyal range TEOXANE Laboratories has developed which is unique in that it moves with the face and feels soft and natural yet is incredibly resilient and able to volumize the face. Something up till now has been difficult to achieve with dermal fillers. Dermal Fillers give immediate results that last for 9-24 months.

Muscle Relaxants

Dysport is a neuromodulator meaning it is able to switch off the signaling from nerves to the muscle where it is placed. We use this to relax the muscles around the face that cause wrinkles. Muscle relaxants take about 1 week to start working and last 3-4 months. After this time the muscle will go back to its normal activity.

What To Know Before Treatment. How Should I Prepare For Treatment?

• to minimize bruising: Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment.

• To minimize bruising: Avoid Anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medications (Aspirin, Vitamin E, Gingko, St Johns Wart, Omega-3 Fish oils, Ibuprofen) for two weeks before treatment.

• Do not schedule any major event the day of, or for two weeks following treatment, to allow for any bruising or swelling to subside.

• Please come in make-up-free to your appointment, we will just need to spend extra time removing it before treatment.

• There will be a charge if you cancel within 24 hours.

• Anti-wrinkle treatments (Botox, Dysport) take 3-7 days to start working. They last 3-4months before we look at retreatment.

• Lip filler will work straight away. Expect to get some level of swelling for up for 2 weeks after treatment. Lip filler will last for up to 12 months.

• If you want to build up your lips then it is normal to need up to 3ml of filler over 3 sessions normally spaced 3-6months apart. Everybody is so individual so please do not compare yourself to your friends. I always want the most natural result for you and your goals.

• Does it hurt? Lip filler treatment is done with local anesthetic for complete numbness. Samantha knows you are completely comfortable and is able to focus entirely on achieving a beautiful safe outcome.

• Please advise Samantha or reception if you suffer from cold sores and wish to have lip filler. Samantha can prescribe you medication to take to prevent cold sores coming up.

What About After Care?

• You will have a 2-week follow-up with Samantha. Please attend this appointment. If you have had anti-wrinkle treatment and need any adjustments she will be able to do this then. There is no charge for this appointment.

• Please do not travel out of the region for 24 hours.

• Do Not:

  • rub massage or manipulate the area for 24 hours unless directed to do so.

  • Have massages, facials or vigorously wash your face for 24 hours.

  • exposure yourself to extremes of temperature (hot or cold) for 1 week.

  • Perform exercise for 24 hours.

  • Lay down for 5 hours.

  • Undertake any dental treatment, laser, micro abrasion, or chemical peels for 2 weeks after dermal filler or Botox/Dysport.

• Expect:

  • temporary side effects of redness, bruising, and swelling in the area of injections. Mild analgesics such as paracetamol can be taken if needed.

  • Results may not be immediate and the lips may look funny while they are still numb or swollen. Results will improve in the days/weeks after treatment.
